A Guide to Piero Piccioni

Hello again, again.  Much has happened in the 561 (!!!) days since my last post.  But let us table that for now.  For this return, I thought I'd write about a recent obsession: film composer (and fellow attorney) Piero Piccioni.  I couldn't find a good introduction to his work online.  So I thought I'd dust off the old macro-blog and macro-blog post one!

I first heard of Piero Piccioni, like most things, on TikTok.  At least two (2) people posted about walking around listening to the main theme of Amore mio aiutami.  I thought, Who is this guy?!  I'd recently listened to Edgar Wright's Ennio Morricone playlist.  And film scores had wiggled their way into the at-work music rotation.

So I started listening somewhere else after perusing RYM.  But don't go and do that!  Follow these handy steps:

STEP ONE: A Compilation

Like a fool, I didn't start here!  The compilation most readily available on Spotify is Piero Piccioni in Lounge.  One less-official option is a playlist compiling tracks on The Seduction of Piero Piccioni.  Shoutout to the user that made it!  And whoever made a similar playlist for Fire Escape In The Sky: The Godlike Genius Of Scott Walker.

STEP TWO: Follow Your Bliss

Liked a particular track on a compilation?  Then go and listen to the whole soundtrack!  You won't be disappointed.  If the catalog is still too daunting, there are some essential heavy-hitters.  Il Dio sotto la pelleCamille 2000 (see above).  Colpo Rovente - Red Hot ShotAmore mio aiutami (see above).  I've yet to dive into the Euro-Western OSTs.  He also makes surprising appearances in David O. Russell and Curb Your Enthusiasm soundtracks?  This requires more research!

ALTERNATE PATH: My Spotify Playlist

Nothing like shameless self-promotion in your first post back!  Be the change you want to see in the world!  Watch this space!
